Connection to SQL Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Experts,

I have created a SQL PaaS database and implied the azure database firewall for it , restricting access to the PaaS database to certain subsets say the database can be accessed only from the subnet 10.x.x.x/28.

This database has been created through rest API which is executed through a server say serv001 outside the subnet 10.x.x.x/28. Will I be able to connect to the SQL Server through serv001 and run a SQL Query through rest API

  • hi VG2014,

Are you querying this DB from azure? also is the allow azure services.... enabled on the firewall side? how did you restrict the firewall connections? using vnets?

  • Hi,

You can't query/connect to the Azure SQL outside the IPs you have configured under firewall. You have to configure the IP from which you want to access the Azure SQL.

  • Thanks Gonzalo. The firewall restriction is through the database firewall feature of SQL PaaS.

The Allow feature is no in the database firewall

  • Thanks Eshwar.

Maybe not the right query , but is what you stated also applicable for Rest API and wit database firewall of SQL PaaS

  • Yes, but how are you restricting the connections? using the IPs only or also you enable Vnet integration?

  • Yes, it is applicable for all including REST API, Web app, and from SSMS too.
