Critical Error Start menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I asked this in the

     >  Windows 10 Insider Preview General

and was told to ask here by Michael Shao.

It appears that very many Insiders using Windows 10, up to and including 10240, are getting the error in the title if they change their account to a linked MSA account, and reboot or let the computer sleep and then sign in again.

You cannot get to settings, so you cannot unlink your account.

I would love to go through a complete and exhaustive list of all the suggestions posted here on technet and on the insider forums, but they are to many to list. I have run sfc amd DISM, wothout errors and no effect on the issue.

Please provide a method to unlink the account using another local admin account.

My same MSA account works fine on my Windows 8.1 systems.

    It's not on a domain.

  • Does no one at Microsoft even want to acknowledge that this major issue exists?

The best solution is to not use MSA. Microsoft should remove it from the product.
