How to setup a simple 802.2 connection in HIS 2013+ RRS feed

  • Question

  • What happened to the simple 802.2 link service to connect from HIS to z/VM or z/VSE VTAM using the newer generations of HIS.  In previous generations. I would define a simple 802.2 connection, and now I don't have that option.  Can anyone point out where that link service went and how to configure an 802.2 connection between HIS and a mainframe?

    Thanks in advance

  • Support for the DLC network protocol was drop from the product in our HIS 2010 release in favor of using IP-DLC (also referred to as Enterprise Extender).  IP-DLC replaces DLC with the TCP/IP network protocol.   This provides greater flexibility and reliability for enterprise customers.  For further information see the IP-DLC whitepaper, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17441

  • Hi, Chris.  In that case, MS cannot claim to have supported connections to z/VM and z/VSE as stated on the MS web site for HIS.  z/VM and z/VSE do not have Enterprise Extender, so if MS wants to claim continued support for z/VM and z/VSE, then either it has to add DLC back or continue support for the product prior to HIS 2010.
