Script for Content Library Transfer tool RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Experts,

Do anyone have automation script for content library transfer tool.

We need to move the content from one folder to another for multiple DPs, so it would take time if we run manually in all DPs.

This would be helpful for us.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks

  • hi well

    short idea should be like

    Invoke-Command -ComputerName Server01, Server02 -ScriptBlock { %PATHTOYOUREXE%\ContentLibraryTransfer.exe –SourceDrive E –TargetDrive G}

please make sure you test this before you use this in production !

  • One limitation of the Content Library Transfer tool is: Only use it when clients aren't actively accessing the distribution point. If you run the tool while clients are accessing content, the content library on the destination drive may have incomplete data. The data transfer might fail altogether leading to an unusable content library.

Not sure how an automated script can ensure this.

Maybe this is why we can't find such a script :)

  • hi

you can also use the prestage function to "preload" the new DP, this works fine.

  • Yeah... you are right...

But we have an option to place the DP into maintenance mode. We have to place the DP into that mode and we can run the tool to make the successfully content transfer.

One more thing i have seen in the blog after posted my doubt here, we could not run this tool remotely.

So that would be reason that we could not automate this.

  • sure  this is different.

and you can run the Content lib tool without Problems remote

just use PowerShell and the invoke command the run the tool remote.
