Virtual Switch on Hyper-V enabled Surface RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

today I noticed some strange behaviour and I want to know if this is intended.

We are using shared/roaming workplaces. Every workplace is equipped with a Surface dock.

While I was working out of office at a customer, one of my colleagues used my preffered desk. For some testing purposes he enabled hyper-v on his Surface, created a virtual switch (external use: Surface Adapter) and kept working with it. Nothing special and no problems.

Today I returned to the office and of course docked at my preffered desk. I enabled hyper-v a long time ago with this same docking station.

Since we had some strange network problems going on, we digged into it and identified that both our virtual switches were using the same MAC Address. The result -> same IP address. Obviously not good for communication.

So, does creating an external virtual switch using the same docking Station twice lead to mac duplication?
