BPOS to Office 365 - Email Address Not Fully Converted As Its Showing Up As xxx.onmicrosoft.com RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

Today was Day 1 of our Go Live for BPOS to Office 365 and we have experienced one noticeable issue which has twisted my brain a bit. We have a user who has the address displayed in the following format:

username@companyname.onmicrosoft.com but it needs to be displayed as username@companyname.com

I am aware that in BPOS we able to change in within the web interface but after hours of research I am even unable to find a solid PowerShell command.

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

    Best Regards!!

  • Hello Daniel,

I was able to change this address by performing the following per user, for 80 users :):

    $LiveCred = Get-Credential

    $Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://ps.outlook.com/powershell/ -Credential $LiveCred -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection

    Import-PSSession $Session

    Set-MsolUserPrincipalName -UserPrincipalName [CurrentUPN] -NewUserPrincipalName [NewUPN]

Thanks for getting back to me on this one!

  • The issue completely depends on WHICH attribute you are attempting to change.

Primary SMTP Address: if you are using DirSync, change the address on-premises in the proxyAddresses field.  If you are NOT using DirSync, use the set-mailbox cmdlet.

User Principal Name (UPN): This needs to be modified with set-msoluserprincipalname cmdlet.
