Can SQL Server databases for MBAM use a custom port other than the default 1433. Is there any known issues with it and is it supported by Microsoft? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are migrating MBAM databases, services etc. to new servers hosted in Azure.

In our corporate environment SQL Server databases are not allowed to use the default port 1433 for security reasons.
We will need to change the port to another one.

Does Microsoft support MBAM databases working with custom ports?
Is there any known issues you might have seen? Any recommendations?

  • I cannot find information from Microsoft on this topic. If any forum member can direct me to a Microsoft document that confirms the use of non default 1433 port, that would be great help.

  • It will work fine as long as you enable the SQL Browser so that database clients (like the MBAM web services and portals) can find the instance and its port. This also requires you to configure the ports properly in any firewalls including enabling unicast responses to multicast broadcast requests.
