tasklist returns "unknown" status for most processes. RRS feed

  • Question

  • On 32 bit Windows XP, running "tasklist /v" from an elevated command prompt will fill in the status with running / not running.

However, in 64 bit Windows 7 Pro, most of the processes listed by tasklist have an "unknown" status.  Is this a limitation of tasklist?  Is there a way to get a list of running processes and their status in Windows 7 Pro?

  • Hi,

    In Windows 7, 8, 8.1, it shows all status process (RUNNING|NOT RESPONDING|UNKNOWN)

You could use “/fi   FilterName” parameter to specifies the types of processes to include in or exclude from the query. The following table lists valid filter names, operators, and values.

tasklist /v /fi "STATUS eq running

to show all of running processes.
