Temporary Shutdown MBAM SQL Servers RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Is there a procedure for shutting down MBAM temporarily? How does this affect all the clients?

We have clustered SQL and IIS servers.

I inherited MBAM and have been asked for a shutdown startup procedure for an upcoming VM migration.

They want to shutdown both SQL servers at the same time for the migration.

  • There's nothing special to account for here as there really isn't an actual service running for MBAM. It's simply a set of IIS applications and a SQL back end. There's no persistent functionality or connections.

Of course, beware that if any users need a recovery key during this period, no one will be able to give it to them and if any systems change their BitLocker recovery key or are newly encrypted, they won't be able to escrow their recovery key at all which could lead to data loss if a recovery is triggered before MBAM is in service again and the key can be properly escrowed.
