Conditional Forwarder issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear All,

I'm encountering a strange issue with the DNS on a Windows 2019 essentials server. I have two servers acting as DC on different domains (a.local and b.local). I have added entries to each DNS for the corresponding domain as conditional forwarders. For some strange reason though server.a.local is unable to resolve the server.b.local to it's IP.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hello,

Thank you for your reply. Did a quick check. In the current setup there is only one DNS server acting as conditional forwarder for the b.local domain that is also the DC of the b.local domain. Judging by the nslookup response time a.local DNS does not even forward the query to b.local.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

    Please follow the steps below:

Configure the DNS Server to Forward Requests to A:
    1. Log in to your domain controller and open the DNS manager.
    2. Right click on the DNS server and click Properties.
    3. Go to the Forwarders tab and click Edit.
    4. Type in the B DNS nameserver IP address:
    Primary DNS: x.x.x.x
    Secondary DNS: y.y.y.y
and move it to the top of the table. Click OK.
