Integrating SCOM with Azure Monitor for Windows Server 2003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

We faced with the issues on Windows Server 2003/2003R2 servers while configuring the integration of SCOM to Azure Monitor.

Agents just failed to load some rules from Advisor MPs and greyed out after adding them to group configured for Azure integration in SCOM.

I understand that Windows Server 2003 is no longer supported and Direct MMA agent cannot even be installed on them but from SCOM perspective they all have SCOM 2012 R2 agents with latest CU14 and monitored fine by SCOM. I haven't found any information that this scenario is not supported.

Could you please assist with sorting this out or at least confirm if anyone had a positive experience in similar task or this is not possible at all?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

The supported operating systems for Log Analytics (Azure Monitor) are as follows:

    • Windows Server 2019
    • Windows Server 2008 SP2 (x64), 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, version 1709 and 1803
    • Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8 Enterprise and Pro, and Windows 10 Enterprise and Pro

You'll find this information over here:
Collect log data with the Log Analytics agent

This means that Windows Server 2003 / 2003 R2 are not officially supported and have probably not been tested by Microsoft. This doesn't necessary mean that it can't work, but if you've already tested it out and you didn't get it working then this will be your answer.

Hope this helps, and Merry Christmas!

    Best regards,
