Random computers are not registering record to DNS server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our computers are getting IP from an Infoblox DHCP server and that's pointing them to Cisco Umbrella for DNS. Umbrella is set to query the domain controllers for anything not on the internet. DHCP is not configured to update the DNS records and we're solely relying on the computers to register to DNS. So now some random identical computers are not registering after we moved to Infoblox from Windows DHCP.

    1. First can someone tell me how the computers are supposed to register their records to DNS when they're not even pointed to the actual internal Windows based DNS server?
    2. Also, any thoughts to how to approach troubleshooting this?

    Thanks.

  • OK. First question is about the way Windows computers are registering records to Windows DNS.

  • Hi,

If you want the client to dynamic update DNS records, you need to configure the following settings on the DHCP server and client.

  • This setting is already checked.

Where do I see logs related to the computer's attempt to register it's name to the DNS? is it the same under DNS Client Events?

How frequent a computer tries to register its DNS record to the server?

Does a reboot re-trigger registering DNS record?
