Windows Server 2012 R2 files are missing in index

    Frage

  • Hi,

on a file server, I have the problem, that files are missing in the index. Only some files are missing, not all of them. When I search for files, the affected files are not shown at all in the results.

    Details about the system:

Windows Server 2012 R2, NTFS Volume, deduplication enabled on Volume, Quotas configured, Windows Search installed

I added the file extensions under advanced options in the Indexing Options. I also rebuilt the index several times. When I remove the directories from the index location, the search takes longer, but the files appear in the results.

Does anyone have a clue,  what the problem could be? What else can I do, to debug the problem?

    Thank you for your help.

    Kind regards

    André

  • Hi Mary,

thank you for your help. I found out what the problem was.

I use deduplication on the server. File indexing does not work in combination with deduplication.

    See:

  • Hi,

Before further check, have you also try "troubleshoot search and indexing" on your server, any more clue?

Sceondly, please try to use System File Checker tool to check if any corrupted system files.

  • Hi Mary

I tried the Troubleshoot options, but Windows did not find an error. I also tried to check the System Files, but Windows did not find an error as well.

Are there any other things I can check?

    Kind regards

  • Hi Andre,

And do you reset the Indexing database like this?

Windows Button > type in Indexing Options > Advanced button > Rebuild button (Delete and rebuild index)

Please also try to disable and enable Windows Search Feature in Programs and features in Control Panel. And try to create a new account for test.

    Best Regards,

    Mary
