Set Screensaver with Password Using Script

    Frage

  • Hi all, All our users do not sign on to a domain network so not able to use group policy to deploy to all machines.

    Objective:

We have decided to force all the 2000 machines all over the island to set screensaver with password, logoff after 300 seconds.  The password/login(if there is on local machine) is tied to a local user account.

1)Some machines are with screensaver enabled already but with no password/login on local machine.  Using script, what are the registry setting to check if any password/login already exist then set it to a default password and set screensavetimeout to '300' in the same script?  Can this be done?  These machines are set with ScreenSaverIsSecure = 1 and screenSaveActive=1 already. So it is difficult to find out if any password/login already existed.

2)Some machines are with screensaver enabled together with password/login on local machine.  Using script, what are the registry settings to check if any password/login already existed?  Script will not overwrite the existing password but set screensavetimeout to '300'. Can this be done?   These machines are set with ScreenSaverIsSecure = 1 and screenSaveActive=1 already. So it is difficult to find out if any password/login already existed.

3)Any other alternative solutions to achieve the above objective?  Solution must work for Win7, WIn8 and Win10.

Appreciate assistance of any kind that bring us closer to solution.
