Connection timeout error in SQL Server 2008 RRS feed

  • Frage

  • Hi

I have admin rights for my windows login for the server.  I can connect to the database engine after loging in server physical box.  But when I am trying to login with my windows credentials using sql server management studio (a different machine) I am getting timeout error. It says

    Cannot connect to SQL Server

Timeout expired.  Timeout period elapsed prior completion of the operation or server is not responding.

    Please help...

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi babusg,

Please make sure that you connect to SQL Server with a domain user. If that is the case, it might be the remote connection issue. Please check whether you have enabled TCP/IP protocol via SQL Server Configuration Manager, if not please enable it; also check which port TCP/IP is listening. If this is a named instance, also you need to enable SQL Server Browser Services. If the firewall is enabled, you need to put sqlbrowser.exe, UDP port 1434 and TCP port you specify in TCP/IP protocol into exception.

    Best Regards,
