Sharepoint 2013 Search not working

    Frage

  • The problem is that the Sharepoint Search Service Application is stuck on stopping and cannot be uninstalled in order to re-install it. The issue persists even after applying all recommended fixes available.  This is causing the search functionality not to work in Sharepoint which is needed.  Not sure if the reinstall of SharePoint will fix this Search issue that is required.  Or if there are other options to get this fixed.  Have you ran into this issue before?

  • Don't try to uninstall SharePoint from server. There are few options you can try:

    Dig deep to logs and try to find why Search is getting stuck? 

    A. Stop/Starrt search service from console or using commands(Stsadm -o osearch14  -action stop), -Action Start next

    B. Delete corrupted search service application. And recreate new SSA.

  • First get service app instance ID
    Get-SPServiceInstance > C:\temp\Services.txt

    Make a note of search Svc APP

    stop a Service from Stopping to Stop

    Get-SPServiceInstance -Server SVRname | where-object {$_.TypeName -eq “search...”} | Stop-SPServiceInstance -confirm:$false

    See if it works, If still doesnt work. try unprovisioning


    UnProvision Using ID

    $srvc = Get-SPServiceInstance “GUID you copied above”

    $srvc.Unprovision()

    Unprovision using Name

    $srvc = Get-SPServiceInstance -Server web1 | where-object {$_.TypeName -eq “search..”}
    $srvc.Unprovision()

    See if its successful or not? If there are any errors please paste error in this thread
