Backing up Hyper-V

Frage
-
I want to backup some virtual machines running on a Hyper-V host. So I found three products (Symantec Backup Exec, CA ARCserve Backup, and Data Protection Manager 2010) for backing up virtual servers.
Maybe someone is able to recommend a product or tell some experience!?
Thanks!

Hi BengTKI,
I personally have used DPM and Symantec and both are doing a really good job here. For backing up and restoring your VMs both are absolutly fine - this should nothing have to say against Arcserve but I don't have an personal experience here :-)
Do you have any special questions around these backup solutions?

Thanks for the fast answer. My question is, wether I have to install the software on the Hyper-V host, or if I can install the software of an other server for back up the VMs?
How expensive is the license and do I need for every VM a license or only for the Hyper-V server? I did not find a helpfull install guide or instruction.

DPM requires a SQL Server 2008 SP1 instance for the DPM database. During setup, you can choose to have DPM Setup install a dedicated SQL Server 2008 instance on the DPM server, or you can specify a supported remote SQL Server 2008 instance.
I read this and now I am confused ;)
We have no SQL Server. is there a problem for using DPM 2010?
Thanks!

Hi BenkTKI,
the DPM license will bring his own SQL server instance, you don't need an seperate licensed SQL server. If you want you can also use an remote SQL instance to host your DPM DB.
"...We have no SQL Server. is there a problem for using DPM 2010?..."
Again here, if you have a licensed DPM edition you already have an license for SQL ;-)
