windows 7 update, windows 10 re-installation on replacement hard drive.

    Frage

  • The hdd crashed fatally on my laptop, os was originally win 7 home prem. updated to win 10. I installed new hdd, used recovery disk set to re-install factory condition.  I had planned to re-install win 10 but most of my program disks were lost/destroyed in Hurricane Harvey flooding, and the free installation of win 10 has ended. so I tried updating my win 7 install. Tried using windows update but the update service will not start up at all  nor will windows defender. I downloaded win 7 sp-1, burned it to disk twice, installs failed catastrophically. All help appreciated

  • Hi,

Is your windows 7 OEM version or retailed version? Did you mean you clean install windows 7 on the replacement drive with these problems?

If it is a retailed version, then you can download the iso as S.Sengupta  suggested. You can auto active it since windows 10 use digital license.

So how did you install windows 7? Make sure that you download the correct image and burn it on a usb drive.
