Entering actuals in Timesheets removes planned split on a task

  • Hello everyone,

    Recently, one of our project managers ran into a scheduling problem with Project Online Timesheets and split tasks. Basically, a task is planned with a split (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday has 8 hours each, then Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday next week has 3 ours each).

    The Timesheet shows the hours on a task properly.

    After entering actuals on said task, submitting and approving them, the hours are still intact.

    However, when the schedule is opened in Project, the hours that were planned after the split are now scheduled right after the actuals that were entered and the split is gone - the task shows Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to have 8 hours planned, while Thursday and Friday have 3 hours each that are moved from the end of the task into the days where hours were not assigned initially.

    The task has no constraints set and its type is Fixed Units. The question is, why are the hours moved back, removing the split, even if the split was made manually and intentionally? Is this the expected behavior for scheduling split tasks? The only solution I see is to re-write the hours into days they were planned on, but maybe there is some other way to solve this?
