DPM2010 System Protection\System State Backup fail RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have a DPM 2010 with rollup1, we have a problem to backup system state for all Windows 2008R2 SP1 Servers. the message is:

The replica of System Protection Computer\System Protection on Server.domain is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.

For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106).

    Affected area: Computer\System Protection
    Occurred since: 9/1/2011 5:57:33 PM

DPM failed to create the backup. If you are backing up only System State, verify if there is enough free space on the protected computer to store the System State backup.  On protected computers running Windows Server2008, verify that Windows Server Backup (WSB) is installed and that it is not performing any other backup or recovery task. Recommended action: You can see the errors reported by WSB in the Eventlog on the protected computer server.domain. For resolution actions and more information on these errors, go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734488(WS.10).aspx.
     Synchronize with consistency check.
Run a synchronization job with consistency check...

    Thansk for any help

    thanks

  • Hi Lourh,

Have you verified that Windows Server Backup (WSB) is installed on the servers you are attempting to protect?

If so have you verified they have enough free space? For System State protection, WSB first creates a local dump of the System State information and then transfers it to the DPM server. The local dump will typically require 15 GB of space on the computer. If there is insufficient space on the computer, WSB will fail the backup.

Have you checked the servers you are trying to protect to see if WSB is reporting any errors in the event logs?

Can you run WSB from the protected servers and successfully run a system state back up?

    Thanks,

    Marc
