Can I disable "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" using Automated Installation Kit? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'd like to create an install media using AIK that doesn't ask me to press a key to boot the install media. So, regardless of what's already on the hard drive, I want the install media to always boot and start the install.

Possible? Or is it built into some executable.

  • No, you cannot.

This "security question" is built into CD/DVD boot loader.

  • You can always remove bootfix.bin from the ISO after its generated

Bootfix.bin is the file that pauses the installation process until you press a key.

Open the ISO with something like UltraISO that allows editing the ISO

Delete the bootfix.bin file and save the ISO

For Vista and Windows 7, bootfix.bin is in the BOOT folder

Dont let anyone tell you it cant be done

  • I totally agree that it CAN be done.

  • As far as I see, bootfix.bin, in the iso file can run only after booting from the CD/DVD, and in this case, after the question "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" and so, this is not an answer to the question.

I don't know if it is possible or no to skip the question, hope somebody answer that.

  • This is one of those questions which has been asked and answered before...

There's more than one way to do this also...

You can build your own bootable CD/DVD from scratch and get ahold of a boot file that does not ask the question.  The question is not a security prompt...its totally optional.
