Custom "file version" fields not loaded when file is on D:\ drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I seem to have found a bug in BGInfo.  When creating a custom field which reports the version number of a file, and the file is on drive D: (no idea if it's specific to D: or applies to any non-OS drive), the custom field initially works and is saved in the registry (or .bgi) file but upon closing and reopening BGInfo the custom field is not there.

    Recreate steps:

    1) Add a custom field with any name, selecting "Version information for a file".
    2) Choose an .exe on your D: drive.
    3) Save the field, add it to your panel and hit Apply / OK. The desktop updates with the correct information.
    4) Close and reopen BGInfo. Notice the custom field you just added is not in the list. If you hit Apply the field tag will not be replaced in the background.
    5) View BGInfo's custom fields in the registry (HKCU\Software\Winternals\BGInfo\UserFields).  The custom field is still there with correct name and value; BGInfo just refused to load it.

Same result if you save your configuration to a file -- viewing the text of the .bgi, you can see the custom field is there, but BGInfo won't load it.
