DocLib \ Choice Field Search RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need an alternative for a choice field in my document library as there are 2k choiceitems inside. So i need a quicksearch over its data.

Also choice list is complex and itself consists of several fields.

External BDC fields are perfect in my case, but i would like to store choice list reference inside SharePoint list or field data.

Quicksearch over choice list is essential.

  • If you have a lookup field to a list, the drop down will turn into some combo box (if the source list has many items) where you can get suggestions as you type.
There are also some codeplex tools like http://autocompletelookupax.codeplex.com/ and

Just checked that out. There are no suggestions, just a dropdown list. Source list is around 500 items.

  • Oh got that. But it is not suggestion, it is begin with filter. Should be sufficient for some ops, but not my case, need fulltext search.

  • hey

Why dont you go for managed metadata fields.

Configure metadata management store in central admin and setup a term store to store all your term set and terms. That would help you to store as many items, quick search , synonyms etc.

From there any term can be used in your document library through a managed metadata field.

perfect blog on this topic can be found at http://www.sharepointnutsandbolts.com/2009/12/managed-metadata-in-sharepoint-2010-key.html
