Registry path for Userinit.exe path changes on clone machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Team,

I have a issue and want to understand how userinit registry works. So the below is the scenario:

I have a Virtual machine where I have modified the registry path for userinit.exe (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\userinit) to c:\programfiles\userint\userinit.exe

I restart the machine and the path remains the same.

But when I clone a machine and power it on and check for this registry key that changes as below:

    c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,c:\programfiles\userint\userinit.exe,

I want to know why this is changing and what triggers this change.

I already did a search on this and do not find anything relevant apart from the below link:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc939862.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

But still I am unable to understand what is causing the change in registry value.

Can anyone through some light on this?

    Regards,

    Suman Rout

  • This forum is for the product Virtual Server 2005.  You could try posting in the forum for the actual virtualization or cloning software that you're using.

Also, include those details in your post.
