Windows Server Backup GUI Issue

  • Hello Friends

    A few days ago I have migrated my Windows Active directory Infrastructure from Windows server 2012 R2 to Windows 2016 standard edition.

    It has successfully migrated with all the aspects.

    Now from yesterday I have seen that Windows Server Backup MMC is not functioning even unable to launch the GUI.

    well, I have tried uninstall and reinstall windows server backup role from server manager but no luck, even not showing in start menu as well as administrative tools.

    I have also try to open GUI from C:\Windows\System32\wbadmin.msc (error snapshot attached).

    I am requesting you please help me if someone have any idea.

  • Hi,
    Please check the detail error message or event logs to see if you could find out CLSID of this snap-in.
    If you could find it, please have a try:
    1. Open registry editor;
    2. Inside registry navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns
    3. Inside SnapIns search for the error number specified in CLSID.
    4. After navigating to the following key, right click on the CLSID and select Export. This will let you to back up the registry key into .reg file.
    5. Next, right click on same key and this time select Delete.
    6. Reboot system.

    Once the CLSID is found, please go to the follow registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\"GUID", then check if this ID is corresponded to windows server backup, generally, you could see for example:

    If this CLSID is for windows server backup, then you could have a try my first reply to see if it works for you.
