Has Sharepoint run its course? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Last night I went to take a Office 365 Test and I was the only one there. The places also offers general SharePoint classes. Afterwards I was talking to the person there and they mentioned that they can't fill a SharePoint 2013 class (dev, user, admin) and on average there are about 8 folks a month taking the tests to get certified compared to what it was 2 - 3 years ago. Even where I live the demand of SharePoint professional has dwindled drastically. They said that more folks are taken Cloud, Java and C++ classes.

Has SharePoint ran its course or are the folks that know it are just staying where they are at so that makes the SharePoint job market very small.

  • Hi SharePointGuy123,

You could continue the SharePoint course. Because learning more skills is not a bad thing. After all get one more skills, more possibility to get one work.

  • Don't think that SharePoint has run its course and I expect a hybrid of SharePoint on prem and in the cloud for years to come. But it makes sense that they can't fill SharePoint 2013 classes as the SharePoint MCSD developer exames are retired in september 2016: https://absolute-sharepoint.com/2016/02/microsoft-retiring-sharepoint-mcsd-developer-exams.html

  • I'm going for the MSCE for SP '13, should I continue this course or take a different path? I know SP '16 is coming out soon so the SP '13 certs will be absolute after time passes and I also know I'm late in the game for SP '13 certified.

  • My honest answer would be: if there is a company investing in you and allowing you to take this opportunity, I'd go for it, because it will be some time before new courses are available. If you're investing in this yourself, I'd wait half a year and see what is wise then.
