XP mode with application running on network drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • My old application located in network drive (ex S:), but this application cannot run in Windows 7.

So XP mode is my idea solution. what i did in XP mode are-> map drive (S:), copy shortcut, run runtime license file (located in S:), test on XP mode (ok), copy shortcut manually to all user being visible in Windows 7 (and i do see shortcut in xp mode app).

However, when i try to run the application from Windows 7 shortcut as mention above, nothing happen.

I have no idea what i did wrong

(the regular application that install from CD is ok, only network app cannot run)

  • The network drive is probably not getting mapped when you start the
    app in seamless mode.

There's a workaround, kind of, that I use.  I make a .bat file that
maps the network drive then calls the program you want.  Then I place
a shortcut to that bat file in the all users menu, and set it to open
minimized.  Then when it gets published to the host, it should work as
    expected.

  • Thank you so much Bob

I just found out that when i logon as local pc administrator, the shortcut works fine. But when i log on as domain user (i also assign this user as local administrator)...it's cannot run. it looks like the application was starting virtual pc (xp mode)..but then nothing happen.

Anyone have any idea about this??

  • It's got to be a permission issue of some kind.  Maybe you could put a
pause in the batch file after the net use to look and see what is
    going wrong?

  • Time to bring this discussion back to life...

I joined the XPMode to the domain so the user logs in with his own credentials. That also also allows for drive mappings with the log in. I created the shortcut in the start menu of XPMode and from within the host I can see and launch the app. I get the standard dialogs for preparing and launching the app, but then nothing happens. The app runs fine inside of the virtual machine but outside I get nothing. Is there anything I can look for?
