Extracting MP from MPB RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are trying to seal a management pack which contains a group of servers. We have APM management packs which are in MPB format referencing this management pack.

So, how do we extract the mp files from mpb management packs. Used mpviewer and found that it contains only xml files and not mp files.

So, how to go about sealing this pack coz mpseal is unable to recognize .mpb files or .xml files. It gives the following error:

"could not load management pack..The management pack was not found in the store" :(

    thanks..

  • Hi,

Management pack bundle this option has been around for a while now in Service Manager 2010 it will now also be available in Operations Manager 2012.

For some reason even sealed MPs are stored as .xml files in the .mpb , You cannot extract sealed management packs from an .mpb file. Package owners must provide each file separately for a sealed management pack.

  • Hi

MPB stands for Management Pack Bundles and this is leveraged from System center service manager.

A management pack bundle gives you the ability to not only add the XML but you could also add images or assembly in a much more efficient way then before without the bundle. When importing a MPB the xml will be imported as well as the assembly and images within it.

refer below link for bundle and to unbundle MPB file

  • Hi Sridhar,

Thanks for your response..Had tried running this command but it could retrieve only the xml and images. No MP found in the management pack bundle.

So, how can we seal an MP which references mpb or xml files.
