  • Are there any plans to release Microsoft R Open 3.5.3 then?  I'm a little concerned that there hasn't been an update in more than six months.

  • Is there a tentative timeline on this, one week, one month?

  • We are actively working on a release for MRO - all I can say is that it will should become available to customers for download within the next few weeks.

  • The fact that Microsoft has dropped support for R in Visual Studio 2019, I wouldn't expect anymore updates to Microsoft Open R. Microsoft supports open source until it does not fit into their 'marketing' agenda. Visual Studio 2019 is a pull back from open source support, a real degradation in features/support.

  • Don't count on it, R support has been removed from Visual Studio 2019.

3 weeks later and not a peep. Bad enough Visual Studio no longer supports R but the fact the Microsoft feels the need to lie about it. Shame.....

  • Why is the development not done in the open on GitHub?  https://github.com/Microsoft/microsoft-r-open  shows no public activity since Jan 2019.

We're evaluating MRAN as a possible R distribution on our internal servers, but it's hard to gauge Microsoft's commitment to the project (and thus prefer it over CRAN R) with this level of in-transparency.

  • Hard to argue with the criticism, but I wonder if the delay has to do with a new build of R Client/R Server. I seem to remember delays (though not like this) when Client 3.4.3 and Server 9.3 came out.

Also, RTVS was a pretty buggy product facing stiff competition from RStudio. I don't blame Microsoft for pulling the plug

  • It took us a longer than expected, yes. But we have released MRO 3.5.2: https://github.com/Microsoft/microsoft-r-open/releases/tag/MRO-3.5.2

  • Thanks for the release and glad to see it's finally available. One question. Do you guys drop the support of Mac OS for future releases from 3.5.2?
