  • Question

  • Every time I start my PC and Windows 7 starts a screen comes up advising that Windows Installer is being installed. It doesn't matter if I let it fully install or cancel it, the next time it repeats the process.

Can you tell me what WIndows Installer is and how I stop it trying to install every time I start Windows 7.

    Thanks

    Jenny

  • Hi Jenny,

Can you let us know which program would pop up once the message disappears?

Please boot your machine in the Clean boot mode, this method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps:

    1. Click the "Start" Button, type "msconfig" in the search bar and press Enter. Please click the Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up.
    2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
    3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".

Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System"

Do you still get the message while booting now? If not, you can try the dichotomy method to find the root cause. You can refer to the following KB.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Once you find the program, it's better to remove it, and reinstall the latest version.

I hope this can help you.
    John
