Diffrent types of MSG files

    Question

  • Hi there,

It seems that we have 2 types of MSG file:

    1. One is that we can edit directly to the file. It is the MSG file that saved to local from Draft Folder

    2. One is that we just view by default and if we wanna edit, have to select Action > Edit. (It is an saved outlook item from Inbox for example)

And now I am trying to find where inside those MSG files to make them different. Because I wanna try to modify the type of old one to the second one.

    Anybody can help?

  • Outlook recognizes drafts by the MAPI PR_MESSAGE_FLAGS property. But you can't set this property for already saved messages. One of the ways you can convert first (editable) MSG to second (readonly) MSG is to convert MSG to EML and then back EML to MSG. You can use free Convert MSG to EML and Convert EML to MSG utilities to do that. After this double conversion the resulting MSG will be of the second type.
