Domain Users unable to change password with Server 2003 SP1


  • Hello Community,

    I'm using a Server 2003 SP1 as a Domain Controller.  Now we have a group policy in effect which is the default now. Some users when prompted to switch there password are able to go through the process of implementing their old password and changing it to the new password but are consistently pushed back to redoing the same process.  I dont have any screen shots as of right now of the actual error, just users experiencing it.  Any information is appreciated.

    Thanks for your post.

    First, please understand that Windows Server 2003 is out of support. It is suggested to upgrade the newest version to get better user experience and embrace the new feature.

    Regarding the issue:

    1. When did it start to occur? Before the issue happened, did you do any modifications?

    2. Can you change the password from within AD?

    3. Have you tried changing the password to something really complex?

    Please confirm with user that the password user was trying to reset meet your password policy exactly. If possible, please run gpresult /h report.html from an elevated commandline and paste the report directly in our forum so that we can make further analysis.

    Besides, you could create a test account to verify the issue.
