Patch MS16-120 October, 2016 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET 3.5.1 on Win 7 SP1 and Win 2008 R2 SP1 for x64 (KB3188740) may reboot RRS feed

  • Question

  • When deployed, this patch may cause a reboot... MS16-120 October, 2016 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET 3.5.1 on Win 7 SP1 and Win 2008 R2 SP1 for x64 (KB3188740).

If I examine the patch in WSUS, its "Restart Behavior" says "Never restarts".

We have seen it cause a reboot, is this an error on MS's part?  Other similar patches to this one, have a value For "Restart Behavior" of "Can Request Reboot".

Should this patch have been given the same value?

    Thanks

KB3188740 does not require a system restart after you apply it unless files that are being updated are locked or are being used.

So, if you occur a reboot after installing the update, it may due to related files are being used at that time.
