Can not uninstall .NET framework 4.7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I tried to use the tool in the link http://cid-27e6a35d1a492af7.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Blog_Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip, it said that the cleanup was successfull but it doesn't uninstalled the .NET Framework 4.7 update in my PC. I can verify this by looking to my Registry Editor and seeing that the update 460805 is there.

After looking to the updates history of my windows update, I saw that the update number was the KB3186539. Then I found it in my windows updates list in the path "Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> View installed updates", uninstalled it and restarted my PC, but I verified in my Registry Editor that the update is still there.

I just didn't format my PC yet because I don't know if the update is done automatically when formatting the PC. I would like to uninstall .NET Framework 4.7 because is causing a problem in one of my apps because of an incompatibility with the SiteFinity 8.2, preferably without the need of formatting my PC.

    Anyone can help me?

  • Hi,

.Net framework could be in the components store even you uninstall it.

Please check the status of .net framework 4.7 on Turn Windows features on and off window: uncheck it indicate that it was uninstalled, but just keep the source file under components store.

Would you please let me know where you find the KB number in registry key?

  • Hi Kate,

Thanks for the response. When I go to my Registry Editor, in the "Net Framework Setup -> NDP -> v4 -> Client -> 1033" I can see a registry with the name "Release"  and the Data "0x00070805 (460805)" which is the correct number for Windows 8.1 which is my OS.

When I go to the Windows Features it doesn't show the .NET Framework 4.7, only the 3.5 and 4.5. I'm a little confused because of that.

    Cheers

  • Hi Daniel,

I also met this issue before.

    .NET Framework 4.7 for Windows 8.1/Windows Server 2012 R2: KB3186539

Please try to find KB3186539 and uninstall it from View installed updates.  .Net4.7 will be uninstalled.

    Best regards,

  • My issue is .NET 4.7 was installed while the computer was on Windows 7.  We upgraded that machine thru SCCM to win 10 1511.  I need to uninstall .net 4.7, but see no way to do it on win10 1511.  Any help?

  • Search "which update for windows kb has .net 4.7" to find a link to MS blogs article that shows the different Windows Updates for Win10 that include .Net 4.7. There is blog from 6/13/17 titled "

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7 is available on Windows Update, WSUS, and MU Catalog."

I found it useful as the KB's noted on this thread weren't installed, but I was able to find KB3186568 and that uninstall allowed me to manually install .Net 4.6.1 to run Quicken 2017

  • I found KB3186568 and that was to INSTALL Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7 for Windows 10 Version 1607 (KB3186568).

I have an application that will not run with .NET 4.7.  I have a Windows 10 machine that came from the factory with the Fall Creators Update and have not been able to find a way to remove .NET 4.7.

Is there any recourse whatsoever to resolve this issue with version 4.7 until developers get caught up with coding to this version?

  • Windows 10 from factory with Fall Creators Update will not find KB3186539.  Now what?

  • For operating systems other than Windows 10, please look for KB3186505.  I found it via the view installed updates page in windows updates.  Its .Net 4.7 original release.  You probably installed it in the last July/August 2017 time frame.

  • Hello,

I am not able to find KB3186539 under View installed updates. I am using window 10..I have to install 4.6.2 on my machine but It's not allowing me to do that because later version is already installed on my machine.
