IP Conflict when failing over windows 2008 r2 cluster RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ok, this issue only occurs when I try to manually failover my cluster. When failing over my cluster to node 2, I will receive a IP Conflict error with Event ID 1049 & 4199 in the System Event Log. if I try again it will work.

My question, why do I have an IP conflict the first time, but not the subseqeent times. I am not using DHCP but have static entires in DNS.

  • You may have accidentally reused an IP address for multiple resources.  This would only trigger a failure if you tried to start the resources on different servers.  Another possibility is the IP address did not unbind correctly from the first node.  This can happen if you test by pulling cables or disabling NIC interfaces.

Regardless, I would make sure my NIC drivers were fully up-to-date.
