Bulk Uploading of New Users without Active Directory Sync. Possible? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

WithOUT Active Directory synchronization, is it possible to do a bulk upload of 100+ users onto Project Server 2013 (Online)?  If so, how?

In addition, can these new users be setup to default with “User can be assigned as a resource"?

    Thanks in advance,

  • Hello,

With Barbara's option you should also be able to set the a reg key and enable the user account column:

https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2816252 - note this is only for Project Server permission mode, not SharePoint permission mode.

I have done this for onprem before but not tested for Online.

  • Hi,

is there any specific reason for not using AD Sync? You could just create a group and run the sync only once? I am not aware of any other tools, sorry. Hopefully someone else will fall in.

    Regards
    Barbara

  • Hi,

it is possible, but not completely.

If you select at least one resource in Resource Center and click "Open", this resource is opened for editing in client. At this place, you can add your new resources with all fields (and Default Booking Type), e.g. with copy/paste from some other source. They are added as resources. However, editing column "User Logon Account" is disabled, so you can't add this information in client. You need to do this afterwards from Resource Center for each single resource.

And yes - I agree: This is very inconvinient!

    Barbara

Can you clarify for me if a bulk upload of "User Logon Account" is at all possible somewhere?  Maybe with FluentPro? or some other 3rd party?

  • AD will eventually be used, but not right away because client is just piloting the cloud solution at the moment.  As such, they do not want to ask the IT department for support on this at the moment.

     Thanks for your reply.

  • Hi Just to update you. We had some success in doing the bulk load described above We were successful in using a CSV file for our "USER" import. Note it only supports a maximum of 250 Office 365 users accounts at a time, so loads larger than this need to be split into multiple CSV file uploads. note, we were able to assign user licenses eg., on-line and or Pro at the same time. The with MS Project Pro with registry changes Paul noted above, we were able to enter "user login info" which took care of merging resource with the user accounts we set up in initial step outlined above. Simple and Awesome!!!!
