FAST Search Indexes RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does DPM 2010 also able to protect indexes created by SharePointFAST 2010?

If no, is it possible for me to create a protection group where DPM 2010 is protecting the content database of SharePoint and a Bare metal restore for the SharePointFAST 2010 disks (where FiXML Index is stored).

  • You can create a Bare Metal Restore function for the physical server containing you FAST service application.

You will only get the system disk of the server.

  • Hi

DPM2010 will protect all the SharePoint associated databases on your SQL or SharePoint server. I don't know about the FAST server thing but when I read about it I see it as a "server plug-in" for SharePoint 2010.

If that database is located on a SQL server i absolutley think that you can protect it. But i don't think you could be so shure that the database will be included in the SharePiont workload presented in DPM2010.

  • FAST is not a plugin... but a service application in 2010. It doesn't store the indexes in SQL. It stores it on disk.

  • Can you please clarify the following statement

    > You will only get the system disk of the server.

Are you saying that Bare metal restore will not be able to recover the other volumes where the indexes are stored?

My OS is installed on 2 internal drives (RAID 10) and indexes will be stored in a drive bay of 12 disks.

Will bare metal restore work for me?

Also, can FAST servers be in the same protection group as the other sharepoint servers?
