Want to set up WSUS but which OS?

Question
-
I am currently at Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 level Active Directory and looking to move forward to Windows 2008 Enterprise SP2 R2 in the future. The client machines are either Windows XP Professional SP2 or Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.
I want to set up a virtual server that would server as a WSUS server. But which OS should I use? What memory, storage specifications?

WSUS is available as a Role in both Windows Server 2008 (non R2) as well as Windows server 2008 R2. You can go with any version. However, I prefer WS 2008 R2 as its more stable than 2008 non R2 editions.
For memory and system requirements, please refer article " WSUS 3.0 SP2 System Requirements"

Storage - it really depends on your environment and the patches you would be downloading and would like to approve from WSUS. Ideally 25-30 GB storage space is adequate to store patches downloaded by WSUS.
If you have more inquiries on WSUS, there is a dedicated forum that, you might want to post your queries there for definitive answers.

Not exactly. I should have used the word 'better performance' instead of stable. 2008 R2 has better performance than non R2 2008 operating systems. Also, BSODs are mostly caused to due to faulty hardware, drivers, firmwares and application issues not because of OS :)I do not represent the organisation I work for, all the opinions expressed here are my own.

Jeff,
How do you justify your own reply as answer ? when there is already a valid answer specified above !
Don't you think you are taking an undue advantage of the moderator position you have just to increase your own points ?
Don't be a prick ! Be reasonable and provide your feedback. Say something whether the suggestion was helpful or not, mark a reply as answer or click on to vote helpful if any suggestion really helps you, don't leave that choice to moderators, let the credit go to a contributor who has invested his precious time on your questions. Please be informed that, moderators are also humans and they also make mistakes ;-) Last but not the least, Unmark as answer if any post doesn't answer your question/s !!!
