Long term backup to disk RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I am looking at using DPM to replace a legacy backup product we use for non virtual workloads. We will be using a storage appliance to store backup data rather than tape. From looking at DPM, I can only see short term backup options to disk and long term still uses tape. Is there any feature or configuration I can use to do long term backups to disk with 2 years+ retention?

many thanks in advance for any help and information

  • Hi James,

To configure long term protection on disk you have to use a Virtual Tape Library(VTL) like Firestreamer:

This will get you all the possibilities that tape-protection have in DPM but the backup data will still be stored on a disk system.

You might also be interested in using Azure to store backups offsite or/and as a Disaster-recovery site:

Please look into the two different solutions and feel free to post further questions if they arise!
