Bulk Change SAM and UPN

    Question

  • Hello,

At my work we are bulk changing the logon names so we can use Dirsync to sync everything with office 365.

Is there a way that the local made profile folder on the pc's also change to the new names without the users noticing and losing their desktop shortcuts?

  • You would need to script the approach described in the KB article I referenced

Considering that user profiles is a legacy and error prone technology, it might make sense to use this change to replace them with something more reliable (UE-V could be a viable alternative depending on your MS licensing situation).

  • Hi,

You should make use of ADMODIFY GUI tool. see if below link helps

else you will find alot of scripts like below:-

Once you change Samaccount name the domain joined users wil have to sign in using new UPN/SAM

  • By design, changing a username in AD does not automatically change the profile path. More at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2454362/renaming-a-user-account-does-not-automatically-change-the-profile-path

This means that users will not lose their desktop shortcuts as the result of the user name change
