  • Hi,

It is possible that there may be a hardware malfunction inside the drive itself which could be mechanical and therefore would not flag on the PC. Something as simple as a band drive which runs the spinner or perhaps the laser is dirty or dusty.

    You can try the following:

    * Obtain a cleaning CD from a computer store and give it a run. That will clean the laser inside and if it is just a dirty laser, it will resolve it

    * Visit MS Fix http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems and run it. This will rule out any PC issues

    * If you still have no luck at that point, my guess is that the CD drive is experiencing mechanical fault, in this case you can prove by swapping it out for another drive.

    Best of luck!

  • seems like hardware issue. May the DVDROM is too old or it has been used many times to burn Cd's/DVD's. check if you can swap it with a new DVDROM.
