Parent Work Items Referenced in Activity Notifications RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm attempting to have my activity notifications include the Parent Service Request ID and the User Input field.

I'm using this article that Travis and Greg Wojkun blogged about as my base, but I cannot seem to get the information to display.

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/servicemanager/archive/2012/04/03/using-data-properties-from-the-parent-work-items-in-activity-email-templates.aspx

If I include the Seedrole='Target' line, it just displays the entire sub string as text.  If I don't include the line, nothing displays.

I read through the logic and the idea of using the contains activity relationship seems ok - but it's not working.  Here is a sample of the sub string I'm using, which is identical to the one in Gary's blog.

    Notification Body:

You have been assigned Activity $Context/Property[Type='CustomSystem_WorkItem_Library!System.WorkItem']/Id$

    Title: $Context/Property[Type='CustomSystem_WorkItem_Library!System.WorkItem']/Title$

    Description: $Context/Property[Type='CustomSystem_WorkItem_Library!System.WorkItem']/Description$

    Parent ID: $Context/Path[Relationship='CustomSystem_WorkItem_Activity_Library!System.WorkItemContainsActivity' SeedRole=’Target’ TypeConstraint='CustomSystem_WorkItem_Library!System.WorkItem']/Property[Type='CustomSystem_WorkItem_Library!System.WorkItem']/Id$

    As a note: I'm running SCSM 2012 v. 7.5.1561.0

-updated to include the seedrole='Target' information

  • Hi all,

I had the same issue but I found in other blog http://scsmguru.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/hello-world/

the solution, its worked for me as the link above mention the trick is When adding SeedRole=’Target’ it won’t work unless you place a space before and after it in the code.

and I type it direct after the insert not simple Copy\Past process.

I hope that help you all.

  • Exact same problem here as well. Have voted on Misha's DCR for this on the Connect portal and I strongly recommend everyone else to do the same to ensure this gets the appropriate attention from Microsoft.
    Here's the link: https://connect.microsoft.com/SC/feedback/details/764823/data-from-a-parent-service-request-is-not-populating-an-activity-email-correctly

Thanks Mishas for submitting the ticket.

    Cheers

  • I finally got this to work with Service Requests and Manual assignments.  Like Mostafa said it works best if a direct insert is done for the desired property.  Then the SeedRole='Target'  can be added.  It requires the spaces and is case sensitive.
