Rename Network Share 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

I have a Folder structure that contains approximately 80,000 files and folders.

This folder has different groups assigned to it at different levels for user access.

I would like to rename the Parent folder.  What impact will this have on the rest of the structure?

    Thank you

    Terry

  • Hi Terry,

I am afraid that if you rename the parent folder, the folder will change to an unshared state. So other member cannot access to it. However, if you rename the share name, the folder will still remain shared.

In addition, I recommend you create a test shared folder and rename it to simulate the situation. You can compare the results before and after you rename the parent folder by entering “net share” in the command prompt. Then you can fully evaluate the impact and find whether the folder is shared.

    I hope this helps!
