Turns out that there was too much on that application pool, as soon as I created a new application pool for the search then it worked straight away

Hi tony,
Please check the followings:
1. Restart the service "Search Query and Site Settings Service" on the server pw-sapp01 from Central Administration, then perform an iisreset.
2. Check if the pw-sapp01 server system time is different from other SharePoint servers.
3. Check if it could help with disabling the loopback check on this pw-sapp01 server.
Thanks

Disabling the loop back on a production server is a terrible idea. Add the server name as an exclusion in the registry instead.
