MS word error RRS feed

  • Question

  • this is the error I am getting when opening some files.  But not all the time one day it will work another day it does not

"word could not fire the event."

This is what it say's is the cause

"This error is usually caused by insufficient memory or low disk space. It also occurs when the default Word template (normal.dotm) is corrupt, when the VBE7.DLL file is the wrong version, or when permissions to the TEMP folder on a server share do not allow access to the folder by the user."

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi Henry,

    >>this is the error I am getting when opening some files.

Where are these files stored? On local drive or on a shared network drive?

Have you verified the possible causes the error message listed? First try checking whether you have sufficient memory or disk space.

Secondly, we may try recreating the Normal.dotm template file via renaming it by appending .old to it. By default, the Normal.dotm file is stored in the following path:

Thirdly, to make sure the VBE7.DLL file is not the wrong version, try installing all available Office updates or replacing the file with a newer version from a working computer.

Lastly, if the files are stored on a server share,  consult the administrator and determine if the permissions on the temp folder can be changed.

Besides, since this issue only happen on some files, we can create new documents, copy contents from these problematic documents to the new ones, and then see whether this issue continues with the newly created files.
