Configuring SharePoint Outgoing and Incoming Email RRS feed

    We have a current in-house MOSS 2007 SP1 - are there any special considerations to using Exchange Online?  i.e., changing the current Outgoing email config, configuring incomining email using our internal AD?

    We do currently have an BPOS trial going; hence my question.  I'm trying to figure out how to configure Outgoing Mail using Exchange Online, with our on premisis SharePoint 2007 instance.  I have since gotten in touch with Microsoft Online Services group for more direct support on this matter.

    David,

    I realize your question was originally posted in the Exchange Online forum and has since been moved to the SharePoint Online forum. However, because SharePoint Online doesn't support configuring outgoing email nor incoming email this is not a scenario that the SharePoint Online team has tested.

    I would expect outgoing email to work without any extra work from an on-premises installation of SharePoint. Incoming email, however, could be challenging. I recommend (if you haven't already) signing up for a trail BPOS account and try to configure an on-premises SharePoint instance to use Exchange Online for incoming email.

    Perhaps someone in the SharePoint installation/configuration forums could provide more insight as they would have more experience with this feature. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepointadmin/threads
