Cannot get access to #shared in Power BI RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All!

    I cannot get to #shared in Power BI - what may be the problem?

    I have empty .pbix file with only one Query, which is Source = #shared, upload it on Power BI, and I get this error, if I try to refresh the Dataset:

    "You can't schedule refresh for this dataset because the following data sources currently don't support refresh:

    • Data source for Query1"

  • Unfortunately, #shared will not work in the service, see Curts explanations here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/aa6e667f-fa2b-4922-8d81-8b306a492395/restrictions-when-using-expressionevaluate?forum=powerquery

  • Hi Andrey,

    This happens when the data source you used, within Power BI Desktop, isn’t supported for refresh. You will need to find the data source that you are using and compare that against the list of supported data sources at Refresh data in Power BI.

    Please refer he official Microsoft solution on this and let me know:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-admin-troubleshoot-unsupported-data-source-for-refresh

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi Thuyavan!

    I'm sorry if I didn't describe my situation properly. When I wrote

    "I have empty .pbix file with only one Query, which is Source = #shared, upload it on Power BI, and I get this error, if I try to refresh the Dataset:",

    I meant that my .pbix file has only one Query, that Query is loaded into the model (so this is the only information which is in the model) and that query is

    let
        Source = #shared
    in Source

    And there is no _any other bit of anything_ in my .pbix file. In other words, I can guarantee that the only possible cause of the problem is using #shared.

    And just in case:

    Source = Record.ToTable(#shared)

    doesn't eliminate the error.

  • Hi Imke!

    Thanks for your answer. I think that that fact is really worth to mention in PBI documentation. I tried to look through the documentation (with moderate intense :-)) and didn't find anything, at the same time this is a quite fundamental thing...
