WSS3.0 Cannot connect to the configuration database. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running WSS3.0 on W2k8R2, everything was running swimmingly until this morning.

The Sharepoint admin console shows: Cannot connect to the configuration database.

I installed WSS as part of the pre-requisites for Forefront Identity Manager and I'm using a SQL cluster for storing data. Its been working for months until now.

Wouldn't the admin console at least log me in and show me a blank page even if it could not reach the SQL database?

    The error log shows:

Unknown SQL Exception 2 occured. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

  • Hi ,

the best way is to create a UDL file to check the connection  from the sharepoint server and check for the connectivity . if it succeeds with the system account it should go ahead .
