Skype for Business External Website being redirected to another fronted RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

as the title may be a bit misguiding, I will try to explain in more detail here:

I have 2 SEFE servers, paired, each one has its own EWS URL. For reference, lets call them EWSFE1.domain.com and EWSFE2.anotherdomain.com. There is an F5 that is redirecting requests and performing port translation. If I try to open site https://EWSFE1.domain.com/dialin from anywhere, I get standard dialin site with numbers etc.

But, when I try to open https://EWSFE2.anotherdomain.com/dialin, I see 2 strange things:

    1) at first the site reaches https://EWSFE2.anotherdomain.com/dialin and shows "This content cannot be displayed in a frame" error message, with a possibility to click on "Open this content in a new window"

    2) when I choose to open in new window, new tab is opened with https://EWSFE1.domain.com/dialin - so it is for some reason redirected towards the FE 1 EWS.

This is a scenario only for IE - in Google Chrome I get simply "EWSFE1.domain.com refuses to connect" (so, for a EWS on FE2 request, EWS on FE 1 rejects it).

When I try to open a meeting link from a person that is homed on SEFE 2 server, the site doesnt display anything (no error, just blank window). Meeting url´s for users from SEFE 1 server are working fine.

Anyone has any idea why this is happening or what have I incorrectly set up? I suspect IIS is to blame, but from what I have been able to check, the settings are the same on both Frontends.

So this is kind of a dead end for me.

    THanks for any hints,

    Tomas

  • Hi,

Please kindly note that Outlook and SFB use slightly different methods to get to the same destination.

Outlook is most likely using Active Directory Service connection points (SCP) and SFB is using https://autodiscover.domain.com to discover Exchange.

Thomas Poett has a great article on how Lync and Outlook leverage auto discovery for EWS: http://lyncuc.blogspot.ca/2013/01/lync-and-exchange-web-services-ews-and.html

As to the DNS requirements, the simple URLs should be pointed to FE pool. And if you are wondering how to configure the DNS records for pointing to Public reverse proxy IP, please refer to the following snapshot. And here is also an article regarding it.

    Kind regards,

    Calvin Liu
