Potential BUG - Exchange 2007 SP3 Update Rollup 5 - Autodiscover service - Outlook 2011 Mac 14.1.3 - OS X 10.7.2 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I posted this in the Outlook Forum yesterday, but as I thought about it, I wondered if the bug was actually an Exchange Autodiscover bug, and not an outlook bug, since the error message seems to be coming back from the Exchange Autodiscover Service.

Can someone take a look and see what they think?

I believe I've discovered an easily reproducible bug in Outlook 2011 for Mac / Exchange 2007 SP3 Update Rollup 5

This bug relates to Outlook 2011 14.1.3 on OS X 10.7.2.

    Here's the situation:
I have an user in Eastern Europe (Turkey) GMT +3. His Mac was set to set the time AND time zone automatically using the location services (wi-fi).  His computer set him to the city of his location in Turkey.  When his Outlook attempts to do an autodiscovery of his account info, it throws an error (only visible when logging is enabled in Outlook).  The error has to do with an invalid time zone ID.  When his computer is set this way, it REFUSES to connect to Exchange.

    Work-around:
The work-around I discovered was to go into Outlook, and check the City / Country list in the Calendar, and find a matching City / Country to his current time-zone.  (In this case, we used Bucharest, Romania (GMT +3)) Then I turned off the auto-time set on his mac, and manually set his time / time-zone to Bucharest, Romania (GMT +3) in the OS X operating system time zone interface, and applied this setting.

Once the time zone in the system matched one in Outlook, autodiscover was able to pull the settings correctly for his mailbox and connect to download his mail.

So, this issue needs to be addressed so that people who have their computers set to auto-time can connect to Exchange using a time-zone ID that exchange is currently unaware of.

Let me know if you'd like further information.

    Does this help?

Exchange depends on the O/S to supply time zone information.
